Summary

Jake Brigance, the protagonist of A Time to Kill, John Grisham’s classic legal thriller is back。 This time he's at the epicenter of a sensational murder trial that bitterly divides the citizens of Clanton, Mississippi。

A Time to Kill is one of the most popular novels of our time。 It established Jake as a classic American hero—a lawyer who seeks truth and justice at all costs, even when his life and reputation are on the line。

Brigance returned in 2013’s Sycamore Row, in which he once again found himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial。

Now, in A Time for Mercy, Jake is the court-appointed lawyer for Drew Gamble, a young man accused of murdering a local deputy。 Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance sees it another way。 Once he learns the details of the case, he realizes he has to do everything he can to save Drew—who is sixteen。 Jake’s commitment to the truth puts his career and the safety of his family at risk。

Filled with all the courtroom machinations, small-town intrigues, and plot twists that have become the hallmarks of the master of the legal thriller, A Time for Mercy emphatically confirms John Grisham's reputation as America's favorite storyteller。

There is a time to kill, a time for justice, and A TIME FOR MERCY。

This is Grisham at his finest。 I hope there will be a follow-up to this。

I like the Jake Brigance stories。 I especially like stories that do not tie everything up neatly in the end which is what this book does。 It felt like the author is trying to ride in the coattails of his success with the first Jake Brigance novel with minimal additional character development

True Grisham。

It was great to re-visit Jake Brigance and all the charactrs in Clanton, Mississippi。 John Grisham is a master at writing courtroom thrillers。

Excellent, entertaining writing, however this book ends abruptly and we have to wait for the next book to come out to find out what happens。 Recommended

This is a very good book。 It is one of the best books Grisham has written。 It has a lot of twists and turns in it that will keep you reading till the end。 Set in the north Mississippi town of Clanton, a murder of a local deputy tears the town apart and Jake Briggance who has been the attorney in 2 other Grisham books has his hands full defending the accused murderer。 How it all unfolds is well worth the read。

Jan

Great read, not as good as the previous books in the Jake Brigance series but definitely feels like an old John Grisham novel。

Margaret Hamilton

One of the better Joh Grisham books I have read in awhile。。。 loved the continuation of characters from A Time to Kill。

I should know better than to read fiction。。。but I wanted a quick, light read and so pulled this one。 It was an audiobook and the reader did an excellent job with the many voices; however, the story dragged on with the primary story's ending pushed to the very end --- and the ending was disappointing。 I should know better than to read fiction。。。but I wanted a quick, light read and so pulled this one。 It was an audiobook and the reader did an excellent job with the many voices; however, the story dragged on with the primary story's ending pushed to the very end --- and the ending was disappointing。 。。。more

I have thoroughly loved and enjoyed the Jake Brigrance trilogy。 John Grisham is one of my favorite authors and I could listen to Michael Beck narrate books 24/7。 Can't say enough great things about this trilogy。 Loved this book as much as the other two。 I have thoroughly loved and enjoyed the Jake Brigrance trilogy。 John Grisham is one of my favorite authors and I could listen to Michael Beck narrate books 24/7。 Can't say enough great things about this trilogy。 Loved this book as much as the other two。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Jake Brogance is back with another courtroom drama。He is more or less forced to defend a fourteen year old boy accused of capital murder of a local sheriff。He interviews the boy, his sister and mother。 It is a family affair because of the abuse from the sheriff。The boy is left in limbo。 Jake will be defending the boy for every appeal possible。The story definitely needs another sequel。 A lot of things not completed。

Spoiler!I really got into this book。 It was well written, had an engaging story line and compelling characters。 It's just really a shame that I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM! Call me shallow, but when I read 464 pages, I expect some kind of resolution at the end。 Didn't find it here。 Kid who shot the cop? Mistrial, they'll try again in a couple of months。 Big insurance case? There MIGHT be a settlement。 Financial hardships? Gee, I hope they find a way through them。 I've enjoyed many Grisham n Spoiler!I really got into this book。 It was well written, had an engaging story line and compelling characters。 It's just really a shame that I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM! Enjoyed this book a lot 3/4 way through。 Then it got tedious and dragged on。 Good story about small town southern lawyer and the legal system。

Let downNot his best work。 Done with Grisham for awhile。 Seems he did not put too much thought into the court scenes。

I didn’t rate this book because I don’t really know how to。 It’s 463 pages long。 And most of what was written had nothing to do with the main plot。 There are pages and pages of this railroad lawsuit and at times it seemed that Drew Gamble trial was an afterthought。 And neither matter was definitively resolved。 Parts of it were good。 I liked seeing the characters of Harry Rex and Lucien again, and there was some humor。 But overall I’d say it was a disappointment。 I doubt I’ll be reading any new m I didn’t rate this book because I don’t really know how to。 It’s 463 pages long。 And most of what was written had nothing to do with the main plot。 There are pages and pages of this railroad lawsuit and at times it seemed that Drew Gamble trial was an afterthought。 And neither matter was definitively resolved。 Parts of it were good。 I liked seeing the characters of Harry Rex and Lucien again, and there was some humor。 But overall I’d say it was a disappointment。 I doubt I’ll be reading any new materials from Grisham。 His newer books don’t stand up well against his old classics IMO 。。。more

Jake is the defense counsel for a 16 yr old boy who shot his mom’s abusive boyfriend。 He does incredible in court and gets a hung jury。 The boy is finally able to leave jail but the battle continues。 Unfortunately the ongoing battle is left with no conclusion。 However, it is a nice ending。

I have read most of the books by John Grisham。 He is a great author and tells interesting stories。 This book is the third in the series about a young lawyer named Jake Brigance。 The first book he ever wrote is called "A Time to Kill" and they made a movie about it with Samuel L。 Jackson, Matthew McConaughey, and Sandra Bullock, among others。 The book is great and the movie is pretty good too。This book tells the story of a boy who kills the abusive boyfriend of his mother。 It's got Jake Brigance I have read most of the books by John Grisham。 He is a great author and tells interesting stories。 This book is the third in the series about a young lawyer named Jake Brigance。 The first book he ever wrote is called "A Time to Kill" and they made a movie about it with Samuel L。 Jackson, Matthew McConaughey, and Sandra Bullock, among others。 The book is great and the movie is pretty good too。This book tells the story of a boy who kills the abusive boyfriend of his mother。 It's got Jake Brigance as the main character。 It's a good story and I recommend it。 。。。more
